Qualifications for Deputy Sheriff:(certified)

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid Georgia Drivers License
  • Must be a Certified Peace Officer under regulations of Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.)
  • Must be qualified on the
    existing firearms qualification course
  • Ability to complete an entrance exam
  • Salary: $50,995


Qualifications for Deputy Sheriff, Recruit:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid state of residency driver’s license
  • Must have the ability to obtain Certified Peace Officer status under regulations of Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) within six (6) months of employment
  • Ability to complete an entrance exam (Accuplacer)
  • Ability to pass the GA post physical abitlity test (PAT)
  • Salary: $45,192


Qualifications for Detention Officer:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver’s License in state
    of residency
  • Ability to obtain basic Detention Officer Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to complete an entrance exam (Compass/Asset assessment)
  • Salary: $20.74/hr - $46,104 annually

Incomplete applications may be returned to the applicant providing the opportunity to resubmit a completed application at a later date. A resume may accompany the application; however, consideration for a position is based on the information submitted on the application.

All completed applications will be reviewed and qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. Candidates selected for further processing will undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including completion of a computer voice stress analysis.

Upon completion of the background investigation, selected candidates will be given a conditional offer of employment. After a conditional offer of employment is made candidates must successfully complete a psychological exam and physical exam, which must have favorable results. If chosen, a final offer of employment will be offered by HR.

NOTE:  Applications and all materials (resumes, letters of reference, etc.) submitted with application will not be returned and will become the property of Newton County Board of Commissioners.
